View eventThe Austrian Cochlear Implant Society (ÖCIG) Founded in 1992 by Franz K. Wimmer, who became completely deaf in 1984 after several sudden hearing losses, Franz Wimmer was the first Austrian patient to receive a multi-channel cochlear implant from Prof. Ernst Lehnhardt in 1986. Based on his own experience, Franz K. Wimmer has dedicated his life to supporting those affected by hearing loss.
ÖCIG is financed exclusively through membership fees and donations. This support allows us to continue our work, inform those affected, and implement important projects related to cochlear implants.
Hearing implants offer modern solutions for severe hearing loss or deafness. Cochlear implants directly stimulate the auditory nerve, middle ear implants support sound transmission, bone conduction implants use the skull bone to transmit sound, and auditory brainstem implants bypass both the auditory nerve and the inner ear to improve speech understanding in everyday life.
Learn moreThe cochlear implant is a modern solution for severe inner ear hearing loss. When the natural conversion of sound in the inner ear no longer functions properly, the CI takes over this task and directly stimulates the auditory nerve. The following article clearly explains how it works, its structure, success prospects, and the different types of sound processors available.
Learn moreThe Cochlear Osia System is a modern implantable hearing solution for people with conductive or mixed hearing loss. It combines bone-anchored technology with advanced signal processing to deliver a clear hearing experience. In the following article, you will learn more about its function, benefits, connectivity, and individual customization options.
Learn moreBone conduction implants are modern hearing solutions for people with conductive, mixed, or single-sided hearing loss. They transmit sound directly through the skull bone to the inner ear, bypassing the outer and middle ear. The following article explains how they work, their areas of application, as well as the available systems and alternatives.
Learn moreThe Vibrant Soundbridge is an active middle ear implant designed for people with different types of hearing loss. When conventional hearing aids are not sufficient, this system offers an implantable alternative with clear sound quality. The following article provides more information about its structure, how it works, and its areas of application.
